The business has always been a family orientated one and continues as such today.
The original showroom was opened in 1969 By Mr Peter Baker and his wife, who had two sons who worked in the business. At that time it comprised of only the two small rooms at the front of the shop. The business was predominately for stone fireplaces and was called 'The Stone Centre' In 1982 Mr Baker passed away, and his wife and Sons carried on. However they found this difficult and in 1983 decided to sell.
Mr Peter Gale, who had been supplying them with goods up to then, decided to purchase the business, and changed the name to 'The New Stone Centre' Over the next few years he developed the business, gradually extending backwards into the rear rooms and warehouse at the rear, and expanding into different types of fireplaces as well as fires and accessories. It still remained a family business with his eldest son involved.
In 1998, Peter Gale decided to retire, and the business was taken over by Mr Paul Baker and his Wife, Tina. (No relationship to the original Mr Baker). They decided to carry on the business in the same vein as it always had been, concentrating on service to customers, and taking the attitude of trying to design personalised fireplaces for each customer rather than selling 'off the shelf' items. This has always proved to be very successful and notable by the number of customers who come back for the next fireplace.
Recently, expansion has taken place, and a separate side has been created concentrating on central heating and related matters as well as servicing.
